5 TIPS FOR TRAVELING ON A BUDGET

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

Traveling can be spendy, but there are some things you can do to reduce the costs of your trip. Here are the top five pro tips for traveling on a budget.

GOOGLE FLIGHTS

If you are flexible on the dates of your vacation, google flights gives you info on when the best days to fly are. I always look for flights on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays and seem to find the best deals then.

Amsterdam (2017)
BUY ONE WAY FLIGHTS

You would be surprised how many times I have traveled cheaper buying a one way there and back rather than round trip air fair. Many times the cost can be similar, but even saving those 20 bucks, could be the difference between you being able to get lunch during a layover, or toughing it out and getting real hangry!

HOTELS.COM

I only recently discovered hotels.com, and I have to say I am impressed! This site provides information on hotels that are not booked yet and shows the direct discounts those hotels are offering. It is perfect for last minute trips and really good on a budget.

SOUTHWEST VACATIONS

SouthWest Vacations definitely has their ish together. This past year I was able to find a package to Cabo San Lucas that included flights, all inclusive resort and transportation for only $500! This is crazy town! When I had issues with my flights I was able to call back and they were accommodating. The staff was friendly, understanding and extremely helpful.

EATING OUT

Food and alcohol are expensive! This might be the easiest way to stay out of your budget. There have been countless times when I imagine I will be spending a certain amount, and that does not happen.. AT ALL. So tips for food, especially if you need constant scoobie snacks, go to the grocery store! This has saved me on so many occasions, especially during trips where there was a lot of walking or exercise. Then, choose a place intentionally to go out to eat. Depending on your budget it could be once a day, or a couple of times during your trip. For me, I try to choose hotels/motels that have breakfast included, then I decide on if I want to go out for lunch or dinner. Usually I take snacks for the day end up eating a bigger dinner out.
